Unif Club World Cup through eyes of foreign participants

(Modřice) Holidays have slowly passed by and people are slowly returning home from holidays. Situation around Nohecmagazin has also stabilized a bit. Mr. Jiri Dobsik asked a few questions to the participants of this great event, and we would like to share them with you. But first let us introduce you the players he talked to.

Thez are Mr. Julien Mercier from French team Nantes Laetitia Tennis Ballon, Michal Klosinski from Polish team, László Szabó from Hungarian Balatonakarattyai Lábtenisz Klub, kyperský FUTNET NICOSIA represented Cosmin Bimbirica, from Spanish team FUTNET BURRIANA pak Sorin Thnule Radoi from Italian team FUTNET N.A.C. CURTATONE Ovidiu Staniste.

Gentlemen, how was the journey to Modřice?

Julien Mercier. We flew from Nantes to Prague and because one of our players arrived later – at around 18:00, we decided to rent a car and drove directly to Modřice. Unfortunately, we arrived very late, but luckily, we managed to get something for dinner before the technical meeting.

Michal Klosinski. We arrived completely exhausted as we drove the car for about 5 hours….

László Szabó To be honest, the travel was very tiring. In the end, we drove by car a little bit over 4 hours.

Cosmin Bimbirica. The whole journey was without any troubles, we flew from Cyprus directly to Vienna, then with the bus directly to Brno and in Brno there was already transport waiting for us.

Sorin Thnule Radoi. Everything was all right. We have arrived to Brno at around 17:50 and transport was already waiting for us. Unfortunately, one of our players arrived late to Prague and missed the bus, so he took a train to Brno and arrived around 19:00. We gave him the phone number of a contact person who picked him up and brought him to Modřice around 19:30.

Ovidiu Staniste. To be honest with you, we were very unlucky on our journey to Modřice. First, the day before we were supposed to travel, we found out that our bus connection from Prague to Brno is cancelled. We immediately contacted the organizers from Modřice and they were so kind to help us arrange different transport from Prague. Unfortunately, that was just a beginning as the next day in the morning when we arrived at the airport, we found out that our flight was cancelled as well. Luckily for us, we found another connection, purchased the last tickets with different airline company and during this whole time we have been in contact with the contact person. I could not believe when I wrote him at 6am that our flight is cancelled he wrote me back and tried his best to help us. So, in the end I divided our team in two groups, one was flying from Bergamo and second from Naples. To be honest with you, we were very unlucky on our journey to Modřice. Sadly, the bad luck was not over as our first flight was delayed and then also the flight with second group had a delay.

Therefore, we arrived to Modřice at 21″30 where transport had been arranged by Modřice and waiting for us already and the second group has arrived directly to hotel around midnight. In one word “Disaster”.

What do you think about the organization of the tournament?

Julien Mercier. We are very satisfied with the organization in here, it’s just a pity that we haven’t organize ourselves better to arrive sooner(laugh).

Michal Klosinski. I can’t say anything negative regarding organization here, it is visible that the guys from Modřice are not doing first tournament and are very experienced at hosting such event.

László Szabó. I would say that the organizers have done a really big job, the organization is really good.

Cosmin Bimbirica. We are shocked at how well everything is organized in here. Everyone did a really great job.

Sorin Thnule Radoi. The organization was really great, I wish it had been like that two years ago in Romania. It can be seen that you have set the bar really high, let’s see what it will be like in Prague at the World Championship this year.

Ovidiu Staniste. I am absolutely thrilled; it is visible that you have almost everything planned to the last detail. You probably don’t do it for the first time (laughs), the hall is amazing, and surprisingly very big, we didn’t expect that, plus a pub right in the building where they cook excellent meals.

Did you reach the goals you wanted to achieve during your participation in this tournament?

Julien Mercier. To be honest, we didn’t as we wished to reach at least semi-finals so we could have a chance to fight for the Medals. Unfortunately for us only 2 ball points difference decided that in our group we ended up on 3rd place. Poland was on 2nd place and advanced to semi-final matches. That was really disappointing for us and so we played for the 5th place with Hungarian team which have won and therefore we ended up on 6th place in the end.

Michal Klosinski. To be honest, if I look back we are very satisfied. Before the tournament our goal was to reach semi-finals and play for the Medals which we have achieved. Regardless of the fact that we ended up on 4th place in the end it is really great success for our team.

László Szabó. Unfortunately, not as we really wanted. We were not really happy with the way the group draw has been done.

Of course, we wrote a complaint about it, but it was not taken into consideration at all. In our opinion, the draw should have taken place in such a way that the Czech Republic and Slovakia as the two strongest teams should each be seeded in a different group and the rest would then be drawn. However, the Czech Republic and Slovakia drew the same group A and ended up in the same group as us and Spain. Unfortunately, the Czech Republic and Slovakia are currently beyond our strength, we have dealt with Spain, but only two out of four teams in group are advancing, so it was almost impossible to advance for us. At least we beat France and finished on 5th place in the tournament.

Cosmin Bimbirica. Look, when we were at the airport in Cyprus, I told all the guys in our team that we are going here to gain experience. That we just don’t really care about any result, as it’s just a matter of gaining experience, seeing what everyone does and especially being able to watch the world futnet.

Sorin Thnule Radoi. Well of course we wanted to advance, but when we saw how the draw came out, we had practically no chance at all. When you are in a group with the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, there was no doubt that we would finish last.

Ovidiu Staniste. Well, unfortunately probably not as we would like it to be, but let’s be honest with ourselves, we just don’t have any chance against clubs like Modřice or Košice, these guys play really at a very high level.

So how satisfied are you with your team’s performance. Do you think that you have a reason to improve something?

Julien Mercier. We played as best as we could, unfortunately everything didn’t work out as we wanted. We have a lot to improve in order to be ready for the World Championship in Prague. Now we are certain that every point counts and can decide if you advance from the group or not.

Michal Klosinski. Ha-ha, there is always room for improvement, we advanced from the group in the end only by a difference of two points before the French team, we had exactly the same number of sets won. But when I see how Modřice or Košice play, they are not one, but three levels higher than us. I’m satisfied with our performance, it’s just a shame that I got injured before the semi-finals and had a sprained right ankle. Because of that I couldn’t help the guys from my team in the semi-final fights and in the fights for third place, where we met Romania. That was beyond our power. But I have to thank you very much that there was a doctor who immediately iced and bandaged my leg and for the rest of the tournament the organizers brought me ice anytime i asked for it.

László Szabó. I think that it is definitely necessary for us to focus on the midgame, where we are unfortunately not as good as i wish we would be. As for the attack, I’m quite happy there.

Cosmin Bimbirica. When we saw how your little kids are kicking the ball over the net, we knew we would lose to them as well. And to see the guys from Modřice, it was something incredible for us. We really have to improve everything, but as I said, we rather came here to gain experience. Winning didn’t even crossed our minds.

Sorin Thnule Radoi. I am partially satisfied, but as I mentioned before we really had very hard group and I don’t think we could have gotten better result. When we played with Italy for the 7th place it was really even match however, we managed to win over them and end up 7th in the end. If we ever wish to win such event, we have to improve everything, I think that we are better in midgame, but we do not really have some decent blocker on the net and we have to work more on the attack as well.

Ovidiu Staniste. We ended up 8th in the end. We played pretty even game with Spain. But if I will take into consideration how much have we trained for this event, I think our success was in the fact that we participated in this event.

What do you think is your strongest discipline, single, double or triples??

Julien Mercier. I would say that triples are most favourite discipline and also our best.

Michal Klosinski. I think that we were best in triples, then doubles and in worse single.

László Szabó. Definitely triples, there we have the best performance, what we have to improve are doubles, i think.

Cosmin Bimbirica. Well single we don’t really know how to play, doubles we are trying, and triple is the one we like the most.

Sorin Thnule Radoi. Definitely doubles, then single and triples at the end, i think.

Ovidiu Staniste. I would say triples, then doubles and in the end single.

Which player have left the biggest impression on you?

Julien Mercier. I would say that definitely players of Modřice and Košice. Both of these teams have been dominating this whole event. Even though that the Košice stumbled in the semi-finals against Romania and lost the first single they still managed to turn it around and win over Romania. Modřice then deservedly won, it was really a very nice finals to watch.

Michal Klosinski. Honza Hanus and also Ladislav Stupák, watching them play a single is really a pleasure.

László Szabó. Certainly all modřice players, especially the pair Rosenberk – Pospíšil, I would dare to say that the best duo here and in the world.

Cosmin Bimbirica. Probably the very smallest players, it is hard to imagine if they will stay with this sport and what kind of futnet players will grow out of them.

Sorin Thnule Radoi. Modřice , these guys have it all in their legs and to watch them play in the finals against Košice , really amazing match and beautiful finals. I have also offered to Mr. Jahoda if he would be interesting to come with the little kids to visit us in Spain for a week to train with us there and then we would bring our kids in here.

Mr. Jahoda was very kind and showed us the whole area and the background of the whole hall and we are really impressed.

If there would be another similar event hosted by the Modřice, would you come again?

Julien Mercier. Of course, we would! We would be happy to, we really liked it here.

Michal Klosinski. We would come back here again without hesitation. You have really beautiful hall and the whole area. I wish we have something like that at home.

László Szabó. Definitely yes, atmosphere over here is great and the whole area is amazing. I would also one more time like to thank to all people who have organized this event, it was amazing.

Cosmin Bimbirica. Without hesitation.

Ovidiu Staniste. Definitely yes!

Very interesting was when Mr. Dobsik has asked additional question to Mr. Cosmin Bimbirica:

What do you think about the fact that the highest futnet league in Czech Republic is played for 2 bounces and amateurs play even on 3 bounces?

We didn’t know this, but we can think about it. How come the amateurs play on 3 bounces?

Because they would not really be able to play, they could time to time kick the ball over the net, however as they have more bounces than 1, they can prepare the attack better and, in this way, they can get better in attack don’t you think?

Well actually now when I think about it is not bad idea at all, perhaps we could try something like that in order to train the attack and once we get better, we can take one bounce off.

Hard to add anything to that.

In the end all of the participants who spoke to Mr. Dobsik confirmed that if they will be nominated for the national team for the upcoming World Championship in Prague they will be coming there.
